Also known as “The Growth History of a Female Emperor,” focusing on the female emperor’s journey of growth.
【Standard Synopsis】
Zi Sang Zhen has always been raised by her mother in the deep palace, disguised as a prince. She thought she could live happily ever after.
But one day, her mother found her and asked if she wanted to return to being a girl. Zi Sang Zhen said she wasn’t sure.
However, in the depths of the palace, women hold no power. She witnessed her playmate being abducted but was powerless to help. With her frail body, she sought out her mother and begged her to teach her how to become emperor.
But having grown up away from the emperor, with no fatherly love and no background, how could she, a woman, navigate the struggle for power?
Zi Sang Zhen naturally had her own methods.
She allied with palace consorts, secretly laying out her plans.
She feigned incompetence, framed other princes, all for the sake of the crown prince’s position.
She showed compassion for the people, leading by example to combat a plague.
She severed family ties to stand up for the common people.
…
Yet, with her overwhelming popularity among the people, she still faced suspicion. Zi Sang Zhen could only retreat to advance, willingly giving up the crown prince’s position and choosing to go to the borderlands.
Upon her return, standing between the crown prince-designate and the emperor, she declared, “Will you abdicate voluntarily, or shall I force you from the throne?”
【Literary Style Synopsis】
My birth was a gamble.
My life is a gamble.
Every choice I make is also a gamble.
I thought I was fighting alone,
Yet,
She taught me to raise my hands, to wield the bow and the blade;
She taught me to read widely, to manipulate the chessboard and human hearts;
She made me abandon freedom, to immerse myself in interests and power;
She led me to break through shackles, to control the state and the realm.
…
I am the tool born of their gamble,
The weapon they use to prove their freedom.
And they are also my weakness, my support, my backbone.
“They bet on me to become king, and I bet that they would not lose.”
I am the princess imperial. The only princess imperial of Da Zhen.
【Content Warnings】
This is a story without romantic pairings; the female lead has no romantic partner. The focus is on the female lead’s growth. However, while it’s labeled as having no romantic pairings, there are two one-sided romantic lines directed at the protagonist—mainly because it’s natural for someone as outstanding as the female lead to be admired. Of course, this admiration remains one-sided and does not develop further.
Supporting characters have romantic subplots, but they are few. The female lead’s mother has a slightly longer romantic line, with a bit at the beginning and a significant portion in the middle (I’ll provide warnings for this). Other romantic elements are minimal and mostly intertwined with schemes.
The overall tone revolves around girls helping the female lead, though there are also elements of mutual use and scheming among them.
